The return of the Ben Gay collection

Remember how my blog used to be all about great names?  Yeah I do too.

Well it comes and goes, as do a lot of segments on this blog.  But back in the day when I first went full on cards, I collected a bunch of different weird names like Wonderful Monds, Rusty Kuntz, Fair Hooker, and God Shammgod.  It was a blast but I ended up not sticking with most of those collections other than a few key cards here and there.

Well one collection I never got rid of was Ben Gay.  Maybe it's because he was a Cleveland Brown, maybe it's because he had such potential, maybe it's just because his name is so great.  I don't know.  But regardless, I've always kept a card or two of his around.  And now I've got another thanks to COMC - his 2002 Scoreboard parallel:
I really dig Ben Gay.  He came from a not great upbringing and succeeded into an NFL player.  Of course he then fell out of the NFL within a year...but it's still pretty remarkable he was in the NFL at all.
This baby is out of /400, and comes containing high praise.  Man there were high hopes for Gay after year 1...sucks he was not able to live up to them.  That said, I'm still gonna collect the heck out of his cards!

  2. Nice Ben Gay! You're the first person I think of when I see a Rusty Kuntz or Dick Trickle trading card.

  3. here's an all-time name for you... Johnny Dickshot. No joke - he was with the Pirates and White Sox, late 30s/early 40s. He should be right up there with Dick Pole and above Rusty Kuntz.
