Ew, not that kind of blast. Except...well...that kind of relates. As today's nominee is none other than WBC South Korean hero Bum-Ho Lee*:
Lee played 10 years in the KBO league with the Hanwha Eagles, contributing a .268 average, 177 homeruns, and terrific defense at SS and 3B. All that was well and good, but he didn't really made his mark until 2009, when his 9th inning hit with two outs tied the Championship game against Japan and sent the game to extras (Korea would, however, eventually lose). His hit looked a little something like this:

As good as that hit was, that's not even the most memorable part of the event. Because, you see, Joe Morgan got pretty excited about Lee's hit - so excited that he exclaimed "He just ripped it through the hole" upon a second look.
Which means he implied that Bum-Ho Lee ripped it through the hole. You just can't make that stuff up.
* I should add that I always read this guy's name as Bum. Ho. Lee. Which was funny, but didn't put me in stitches. Then one day, far later than I wish to admit, I pieced it all together and now read it as Bum. Hole. Hilarity everytime.

That was a great game... lee's hit in the 9th was painful to watch... but great nonetheless.
ReplyDeleteAre there any cards of this guy? I've been looking for about 3 years. Beyond the name, he was a fun player to watch.
ReplyDeleteI imagine he's got to have some card in the KBO league. But nothing stateside, not even WBC releases.
