Welcome to what was the introductory post of the GSNHOF. A few times a week we bring you some ridiculous name from the sporting world, and they then become eligible for our Great Sports Name Hall of Fame. After we accumulate a decent list of names, you'll vote on them, and tell us which names are truly great and which names are not.
To begin, we start with Dick Trickle, former NASCAR ... driver. I won't say great...because he wasn't. But he certainly was in a helluva lot of races and he was a good guy with a sense of humor. As he shows in this 1997 Napa Auto Parts Ad.
How would he make the Great Name Hall of Fame?
First Ballot. An oldie but a goody, he represents the dead ball era of great names. Gotta love the rhyming action and it's always a funny name when Dick is involved, but that's just my opinion. If you're curious as to whether Dick was first ballot or not, check out the links on the side of this site!
