Oh Dennis Green, I feel your pain.
According to here, here, here, here, and here (as well as here), Pull Dickoff is a futbol (soccer) player for West Ham with a very hilarious/painful sounding name. I thought it was pretty excellent myself, and voters apparently agreed as Dickoff was the top vote gainer on Ballot Two and Ballot Three of our Great Sports Name Hall of Fame.
So imagine my surprise tonight when my brother and I searched for Pull Dickoff to join our Fifa 2009 Ultimate Team (for XBox 360). We looked at West Ham's team, but found nothing. But when we looked at Leicester City, we found a Scottish striker named Paul Dikov, who scored an amazing goal in Wembley in 1999 and has a surprisingly similar sounding name to the guy we were looking for.
Sure enough,Finkel is Einhorn Dickov appears to be Dickoff. This web site talks about how Paul never played for West Ham, but how every funny name site claims that Pull did, and that maybe Pull is a nickname from "loving" opposing fans. This site mentions "Pull" and West Ham, but it's an article about the Blackburn Rovers, one of Paul's old teams. And this site just calls it like it is, correcting someone who named Pull with a "you mean Paul Dickov."
Clearly, the internet has done us wrong on this occasion, spreading lies of an amazing name that actually does not exist. Pull Dickoff is an awesome name, and one that I thought should make the Great Sports Name Hall of Fame with time and a little more support. However, I'm changing his name on the ballot to the less funny (unless you have an awesome British or Scottish accent) Paul Dickov, as it only seems right. Maybe he'll make the hall, maybe he won't, but I'll rest a little easier knowing that at least one site on the web has their facts on Paul Dickov straight (heh heh, straight Dickov).
Also, for those of you teased by the Finkel vs. Einhorn thing, here's the shocking conclusion of Ace Ventura: Pet Detective: "That's why Roger Podacter is dead! He Found Captain Winkie!"
