GSNHOF Nominee - Seth Schwindenhammer

This one's for Adam!

Adam has long been calling for me to nominate Seth Schwindenhammer to the GSNHOF, and today I finally am. So buy up some of his cards, friend the guy on Facebook - it's time to celebrate the man with the longest last name in baseball!

Now part of why I was hesitant to put Seth on the Ballot earlier is because he was already kind of a big deal in other great name circles, especially Minors Moniker Madness where he was bracket champion in 2011. I wanted to give at least a little pause between his win and his introduction to my list, and I think I've waited long enough now!

As for the player behind the name, Schwindenhammer is a Red Sox minor leaguer who spent 2011 with the Lowell Spinners. Soxprospects.com does a great job summing up Seth, noting that he has "above average raw power" but that he "does not project into higher levels without extensive work eliminating holes in (his) swing." In other words, Schwindenhammer does indeed bring the hammer, but he hasn't mastered it yet. Here's to hoping that he brings it all together with some minor league seasoning so that we see Jarrod Saltalamacchia unseated as the longest last name in baseball!

So success may or may not come for Mr. Schwindenhammer at the major league level, but that doesn't mean it can't come at the great name level. He already won Minors Moniker Madness - with some votes he'll be enshrined as a truly great name here as well, making him the first player to achieve that honor! Best of luck to you Seth Schwindenhammer!
