GSNHOF Nominee - Greg Legg

I often admire great names for their simplicity.  No bells or whistles or gimmicks - just a name that sounds awesome when it rolls off the tongue, whether you're 4 years old or 44 years old.

I'd say that applies to Greg Legg:

Legg was a 22nd round pick of the Phillies in 1982, and turned that opportunity into a 13-year career.  He only played fourteen games in the majors (11 in 1986 and 3 in 1987), but his intangibles and ability made him worth keeping around for the Phillies, so much so that they helped him get into coaching at the end of his minor league career.  And that's what Legg does now, as he's had several hitting coach jobs and head coaching jobs in the minors and other leagues since his retirement.

A simple tale of a simple guy with a simple name.  And what a great name it is.

  1. You might say, he had a Legg up on his competition for a coaching position... I'll be here all week.
