God Shammgod's rating seems AccuRate

Another card I picked up from my recent Beckett Marketplace purchase is God Shammgod's 1997 Score Board Autographed BK card.  I used to own it and didn't think much of it back then, but something caught my eye this time around.  The little rating number in the corner.

The number seemed fairly arbitrary, and I was really curious what the heck it meant.  So I checked the back the just got this:

So I went looking for a box to interpret this mysterious number.  Problem is, best I can find is a box front.  So unless one magically appears somewhere, the exact calculation of the AccuRate is something that might be lost to time.

That being said, I was still wondering how Shammgod's number might compare to the rest of the sets.  I pictured it as possibly being a rating out of 100, with Shammgod's 87.3 representing a B/B+ of sorts as an estimation of his future NBA value.  So I looked to some other cards to see where Shammgod might sit amongst the 50 card set.

The short answer?  Not good at all.

The longer answer?  Well, here's all the ratings I found:

Tim Duncan - 136.5
Ron Mercer - 99.6
Tracy McGrady - 125.6
Johnny Taylor - 91.0
Tim Thomas - 96.8
John Thomas - 72.6
Scot Pollard - 87.2
Brevin Knight - 98.6
Keith Booth - 104.9
Charles Smith - 88.4
Kobe Bryant - 93.5
Kerry Kittles (NBA) - 117.0
Marcus Camby (NBA)  - 118.5
Paul Grant - 75.9
Damon Stoudamire (NBA) - 140.8
Shareef Abdur-Rahim (NBA) - 127.9
Antonio Daniels - 112
Stephon Marbury (NBA) - 123.8
Kelvin Cato - 93.3
Allen Iverson (NBA) - 151.8
Derek Anderson - 97.0
Rasheed Wallace (NBA) - 113.3
Austin Croshere - 95.6
Hakeem Olajuwon (NBA) - 154.2
Clyde Drexler (NBA) - 134.4
Adonal Foyle - 132
Alonzo Mourning (NBA) - 145.6
Ed Gray - 96.4
Antonio McDyess (NBA) - 123.1
Ray Allen (NBA) - 107.8
Joe Smith (NBA) - 126.6
Keith Van Horn - 108.9
Tony Battie - 106.2
Bobby Jackson - 92.9
Anthony Parker - 84.4
Scottie Pippen (NBA) - 142.9
Chauncey Billups - 105.8
Jacque Vaughn - 84.6
Danny Fortson - 105.6
Olivier Saint-Jean - 107.1
Marc Jackson - 89.8
God Shammgod - 87.3
Chris Anstey - 85.8
DeJuan Wheat - 93.0
Serge Zwikker - 82.7
Jason Lawson - 100.4
Antoine Walker (NBA) - 126.8
Charles O'Bannon - 97.2
Kebu Stewart - 110.4
Mark Sanford - 91.3

On my quick count, Shammgod would rank 43rd in the set based on that ranking, which I guess is fair given the lack of duration of his career.  I also found it weird that there were 15 current NBA players in this mostly college set, with Hall of Famer Ray Allen ranking by far the lowest.  His score was actually below college guys like Kebu Stewart, Keith Van Horn, and the super high rated Adonal Foyle.  Definitely a weird set, and hopefully I'll find a box back someday to explain the rational behind those wild numbers.

  1. Good news/bad news: Found one on eBay with the bottom of the box https://www.ebay.com/itm/392819675143?hash=item5b75e09007:g:C-gAAOSwdaVe0rkR&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAAsBzGt5laOr1t57bQhtHdT13s9HNuC%2FZrCqqyRgTB562X4byxps%2FWjuwVTPcV4H15cmfW9zANH5Alx5MFLMr2tB8uox%2Fvb9DvQEYK1Q1l1RVk8bZuSjdnsDL25hA51jtEhJD3ObkGa6Mc2xVgyn5HKeEXNiAz1ajki5veVCGg1XQUphlBf5prswMS0nwtPPNc9lyga7X3tVLQog9yzx7hGY8%2FORCMT5Rn96%2BdLGkCEf62%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR-afxfLdYA

Bad news is that it just lists the categories that go into the rating system, not the specifics of that system. I guess it was considered proprietary information.
