The Results of Ballot Two of the Great Sports Name Hall of Fame

Voting for Ballot Two Has Ended!

47 people cast their votes, and thanks to them Dick Trickle is the newest member of the Great Sports Name Hall of Fame!

And look at how happy he is. Pictured to your left, Dick Trickle was one vote away from entering the Hall on the initial ballot. This ballot had an eerily similar result, as Trickle actually only made the Hall by one vote (26 of 47, or 55.3%) , but he'll take it how he can get it. I initially figured that Trickle's name would garner him first ballot status, and was surprised when he did not make it in on the inaugural ballot. However, it seems fitting that Trickle, who never won a Nascar race despite 303 races over 24 years (he did have one pole, however), would not be allowed to finish first. But it's nice to see him finish in the Top 5, which he only did 14 times in his actual racing career. Hats off to you Dick.

Trickle will be entering the Hall alone based on the results, which means that a lot of players retain their eligibility for the Hall and will be present once again on the third ballot. The players who were on between 20 and 55% (10 and 25 votes) of the ballots, are as follows:
20 - Harry Colon
19 - Ben Gay
17 - Wonderful Terrific Monds the Third (This was his second attempt at the Hall)
17 - Jung Bong (This was his second attempt at the Hall)
17 - Lucious Pusey (This was his second attempt at the Hall and he was the biggest vote loser with a 14% drop)
17 - Milton Bradley
16 - Ron Tugnutt
16 - Earthwind Moreland
14 - Paul Dickov (as Pull Dickoff) (This was his second attempt at the Hall and he was the biggest vote gainer with a 7% raise)
13 - Dick Butkus (This was his second attempt at the Hall)
11 - Dick Pole (This was his second attempt at the Hall)
11 - Dick Seaman (This was his second attempt at the Hall)
11 - Tshimanga Biakabutuka

The following players were on 9 or fewer ballots, less than the required 20%, and thus will have their names removed from the ballot and future Great Sports Name Hall of Fame consideration:
9 - Kywin Supernaw
9 - Onome Ojo
9 - YourHighness Morgan
8 - Majestic Mapp
6 - Dean Windass
5 - Nicky Butt
0 - JamesOn Curry

So there you have it. As happy as I am to see Trickle enter the hall, I think I'm 100 times as sad to see Kywin Supernaw's chance to enter dissapear. I know that about a third of his vote this time was due to my family members and a great love for the man spawning from Madden 2002 and NFL 2K, but it's still a shame to see him go. Majestic Mapp was another name that I was really suprised to see drop off the list, particuarly on his first ballot. But I guess voting is what it is. I'll just keep pulling for guys like Gay and Monds and Colon to gain that extra bit of bump that allows them to enter the Hall while hoping that the next ten names I give you give them plenty of competition. And they most certainly will, as I believe you'll see when I post the first name eligible for Ballot 3 later this Sunday.
